Da Vinci Robotic-Assisted Surgery
For Added Surgical Precision/Flexibility, Less Post-Op Pain/Scarring
Not every gynecological surgeon has the experience and training to use the da Vinci system. Dr. Albert Scott Jr., founder of Dekalb Women’s Specialists, is uniquely qualified to perform your gynecological surgery using robotic assistance.
Dr. Scott has nearly two decades of experience using the da Vinci surgical system, a revolutionary surgical platform used to treat common gynecological procedures, including hysterectomy, uterine fibroid removal, and ovarian cyst surgery.
What Is Robotic-Assisted Surgery?
The da Vinci surgical system used at Dekalb Women’s Specialists consists of three components: the surgeon’s console, the patient-side cart, and the vision cart.
During surgery, your surgeon remains in full control of the system as he manipulates the small robotic tools using the surgeon console. The instruments are “wristed” and move like a human hand, but with a far greater range of motion. The patient-side cart is set up near the patient and contains the instruments your surgeon will need. The vision cart facilitates communication between system components and supports the latest 3D high-definition vision system. This equipment allows your surgeon to have a close-up, 3D view of your anatomy.
Your surgeon is in the operating room with you throughout the entire procedure.
Benefits of Robotic-Assisted Surgery
Robotic-assisted surgery offers many advantages compared to traditional open surgery. Procedures using robotic assistance require smaller incisions, result in less blood loss, and allow for faster recovery.
The robotic tools also allow your surgeon to perform your surgery with a higher degree of precision than is possible with human hands. The 3D imaging enhances your surgeon’s view of the surgical site, so the procedure can be completed in the most safe, effective, and efficient manner possible.
What Can Robotic Surgery Treat?
Robotic-assisted surgery has a wide variety of applications. It can help your OB-GYN treat common issues like pelvic pain, endometriosis, uterine fibroids, abnormal bleeding, pelvic organ prolapse, and cancer.
Some of the most common gynecological uses for robotic-assisted surgery include:
- Hysterectomy – removal of the uterus and sometimes the ovaries
- Myomectomy – removal of uterine fibroids
- Removal of abnormal endometrial tissue
- Sacrocolpopexy – correction of pelvic organ prolapse
- Removal of cancerous tumors
