From Pregnancy to Childbirth and Beyond

At Dekalb Women’s Specialists, we take pride in providing high-quality, comprehensive obstetrical care to women from communities in and around Atlanta. We take our commitment seriously by providing excellent, timely prenatal and postpartum care while treating each patient as a part of the family.

Before you enter your final weeks of pregnancy, your obstetrician or midwife will discuss your childbirth plan with you. If your plan contains preferred options – such as a natural birth or the wish to have pain relief administered – we will follow your wishes to the extent possible.

We will also be there for the three stages of your labor and delivery. During the first stage, you will experience contractions. When they become regular and strong (lasting about a minute), it will be time to go to the hospital or birthing center, where your DeKalb Women’s Specialists provider will be there to support you. If your pain is severe, we may be able to provide you with an epidural anesthetic to numb your lower body.

During the second and third stages of labor and delivery, your baby will be born with the assistance of your delivery team, who will be on hand to help with any questions you may have. If yours is a breech birth (the baby’s feet or buttocks enter the birth canal first) or transverse birth (the baby’s sides or shoulders come first) and you require a Cesarean (C) section, an appropriate medical professional will be on hand to address any complications.

After giving birth, your provider team will ensure that you heal properly, both physically and emotionally, providing the same exceptional, comprehensive obstetrical care you received during your pregnancy and childbirth. We are here to provide guidance and answer any questions you may have about breastfeeding or caring for yourself and your child in the postpartum period.
